Quincy Falls In Nail-Biter To St. Ambrose

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's lacrosse team returned to QU Stadium on Wednesday (Feb. 26) evening to take on St. Ambrose University. The Hawks came out on the wrong end of a back-and-forth affair, falling to the Fighting Bees 14-13.

How It Happened
1st Half
Quincy came out on the attack and scored first. Freshman Bianca Johnson slashed through the SAU defense and found the back of the net in the first five minutes to put QU up 1-0.

The Fighting Bees answered with two goals to take their first lead of the game.

Johnson quickly shot right back, scoring her second goal one minute later to even the score.

The Hawks continued to put pressure on the SAU defense by scoring twice in the next three minutes. Jenny Ngeth and Kara Wilhelm each got on the board during that span.

Once again, the visiting team responded with two goals of their own to tie it at 4-4, but QU had another answer.

Ngeth scored on a free position shot and Danielle Robinson tallied her 12th goal of the season to put the Hawks back up 6-4.

Each team picked up one more goal in the final eleven minutes as Quincy went into the locker room with a 7-5 lead.

Johnson scored the last goal of the half for QU at the ten-minute mark. The St. Louis, Missouri native notched a hat trick in the first half and was not done by long shot.

2nd Half
Bianca Johnson picked up where she left off in the second half, scoring in the first four minutes to put the Hawks up three.

The Fighting Bees proceeded to go on a 3-0 run to tie the score and force a QU timeout.

After the short break, Johnson and Danielle Robinson later hit back-to-back goals to give the Hawks an 11-9 lead.

SAU then scored five unanswered to take a 14-11 lead.

QU was backed into a corner with 6:42 remaining, but they came out swinging.

Johnson tallied her seventh goal of the game at the 2:15 mark to get the Hawks within two.

ChanceLyn Sisson later found Robinson for her third goal to make the score 14-13 with just over one minute remaining.

Unfortunately for QU, there was not enough time on the clock to complete the comeback as they fell to the Fighting Bees.
