BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Quincy University men's basketball team hit the road to take on the fourth-ranked team in the GLVC at Southwest Baptist on Thursday night (Feb. 20). The Bearcats caught fire from deep, shooting 42.4% from behind the three-point line to down the Hawks 90-65.
How It Happened
1st Half
The Bearcats opened Thursday's contest on a 13-5 run in the first five minutes of play.
The Hawks tried to chip into that lead with two
Adam Moore free throws, but SBU answered with a 7-0 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game.
The home team held at least a 10-point lead until the 5:26 mark when
Viktor Kovacevic drove into the lane and showed his strength, finishing a layup with contact. The junior forward knocked down the free throw to complete the three-point play and cut the lead to 29-20.
The Bearcats Quinn Nelson proceeded to rattle off three straight three-pointers to push their lead back to twelve.
QU cut it back to ten after an
Aziz Fadika jumper and two Kovacevic free throws, but SBU ended the first half on a 9-4 run.
Quincy trailed Southwest Baptist 47-32 at the break.
2nd Half
The Hawks quickly trimmed the Bearcat lead to ten following halftime.
An
Aziz Fadika jumper followed by a triple from
Tanner Stuckman made the score 47-37.
SBU responded by putting distance between themselves and the Hawks with a 12-0 run. The sixth-ranked scoring offense in the GLVC hit their next four shots and added four free throws to take a commanding lead, 59-37.
Quincy was never able to recover from that deficit, falling to Southwest Baptist 90-65.
