ST. CHARLES, Mo. - After a one-day delay and a location change, the Quincy University women's lacrosse team started their inaugural season against Davenport University at a neutral site in St. Charles, Missouri on Saturday (Feb. 15). The Panthers offensive attack proved to be too much for QU, as the Hawks fell 19-4.
How It Happened
1st Half
Davenport got out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first five minutes of play, forcing Quincy to take a timeout.
The short break proved to be beneficial for QU, as
Kara Wilhelm got the Hawks on the board two minutes later.
The freshman from Joliet, Illinois scored on a free position shot to make the score 3-1.
The Panthers put three more on the board before the Hawks responded again.
Wilhelm slashed through the Panther defense to tally her second goal of the half. DU led 6-2.
Davenport picked up another goal, but the Hawks answered right back.
Wilhelm found a streaking
Jenny Ngeth who put the ball in the back of the net for her first goal, making the score 7-3.
DU extended their lead to seven in the final eight minutes of the first half, taking a 10-3 lead into the locker room.
2nd Half
QU's lone goal of the second half came at the 18:10 mark.
ChanceLyn Sisson hit a cutting
Megan Ganniger who beat the DU goalie, making the score 14-4.
Goalie
Kelly McClure did all should could to thwart the Panther attack, recording 11 saves on the day, but the lead was too much for QU to overcome.
Davenport went on to win by a final score of 19-4.
