BIG RAPIDS, MI – The Quincy University women's soccer team traveled to #12 ranked Ferris State today (Sept. 8) where they struggled to get the offense going in a 1-0 loss.
1st Half
The Ferris State Bulldogs attack put pressure on the Hawks back line early in the contest. FSU was able to put two shots on goal in the first five minutes of play, but
Emilee Autry was there to make the saves.
Autry was tested many times throughout the first half as the Bulldogs rattled off 12 shots in the first half with six being on goal. Autry made all six saves despite the consistent attack from the 12th ranked team in the country.
The Hawks had a very quiet first half offensively. FSU dominated the possession and kept the ball in QU's defensive zone for most of the half. Quincy was not able to get a shot off in the first forty-five minutes of play. Both teams went into halftime in a scoreless tie.
2nd Half
Ferris State picked up where they left off on offense and ripped a shot in the first minute and a half, but it missed wide. Thirty seconds later, another Bulldogs' shot was blocked by Quincy's defense.
In the 51
st minute, Ferris State broke through. Pia Nagel of FSU scored the go-ahead goal for the Bulldogs to put them ahead 1-0.
Following the goal, Quincy was finally able to get off a shot as
Sydney Gorman sent one in but it missed high.
In the 59
th and 63
rd minute, Ferris State sent two more shots shot on goal, but Autry was there to make both saves. Quincy responded with a surge as
Maddie Bauer sent in a shot that missed wide right.
Bauer had another scoring chance in the 78
th minute. The junior forward was able to send a header shot near the goal, but the ball sailed over the crossbar.
The Hawks had one last scoring chance in the 83
rd minute as
Sydney Gorman sent a shot on goal. The Bulldogs keeper made the save to keep QU off the board and secure the 1-0 win.
Autry faced eleven shots on goal and made 10 saves in the game. The Hawks were only able to get four shots off with one being on goal.
