CANTON, MO – The Quincy University women's volleyball team traveled across the Mississippi River and swept Culver-Stockton College 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-17) Wednesday night (Sept. 18). The Hawks recorded their highest number of service aces this season with 9 in the victory over the Wildcats.
Set 1
Culver-Stockton jumped out to a 5-3 lead early in the opening set. QU tied the score at 7-7 behind a kill from
Emily Rehagen and a perfect serve from
Alaina Rothermich. The Wildcats took advantage of a few Hawk errors and went on to take their largest lead of the set at 15-10. Down five, Quincy was up to the challenge. Both teams traded points until Rothermich came back around to serve. The junior from O'Fallon, Missouri won three straight points for the Hawks and notched her second service ace to tie it at 17-17. After a Wildcat kill, QU used three straight kills of their own to take a two-point lead they would not relinquish. The Hawks went on to take the first set 25-22.
Set 2
The Quincy offense turned it up a notch in the second set. The Hawks tallied 14 kills and four service aces.
Emily Rehagen hammered home three kills early on to propel QU to a 15-10 lead. Rothermich later added her fourth ace of the match to extend the lead to 19-13. The Hawks never looked back, taking the second set 25-15.
Set 3
The third set was tied at eight before the Hawks went on an 8-1 run to take a 16-9 lead. Culver-Stockton came within four, but a 3-0 run ending with a
Makayla Knoblauch kill put Quincy up 22-15. The Hawks held the Wildcats to just two more points the rest of the way. Back-to-back kills from
Taylor King and
Sarah Brown secured the match for QU.
Alaina Rothermich recorded six service aces in the match, which is the most by any QU player in the last two years.

Next up for the Hawks
The Hawks play their first two matches of the Union Classic on Friday (Sept. 20) in Jackson, Tennessee. They will take on West Virginia State at 11 a.m. and Union at 3 p.m.
