KIRKSVILLE, MO – The Quincy University men's soccer team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Sunday (Sept. 15) afternoon, but Truman State turned away the Hawks, 2-0, in Kirksville.
 
Quincy was unable to muster a goal despite putting three shots on frame and owning the advantage in corner kicks 4-3. 
Neither team was able to gain momentum early on, as there were just nine shots between the two teams in the first 44 minutes.
The home side broke the scoring seal in the 45
th minute. The Bulldogs put pressure on the Hawks and a foul was called in the box with one second remaining in the first half.
 
Truman's Matt Yankowitz sent the penalty kick into the bottom right corner to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
 
TSU quickly doubled their lead to start the second half. Jeff Masters scored from the right side in the 48
th minute to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.
 
Michele Barletta made back-to-back saves in the 77
th minute to keep the Hawks within striking distance.

Anthony Christante each ripped off a shot on goal late in the game, but Truman's Roy Hart came up true with the saves to thwart the hawks attack.

Macker Little were able to get off multiple shots in the match.
This marks the first time Truman has defeated Quincy since 2011.
