The Hawks and Rangers came back out for round two in similar fashion. Neither team led by more than four points until late in the set. Timely offense from
Emily Rehagen and
Sarah Brown pushed QU to five straight points and a 24-17 lead. Parkside closed to within three, but the Hawks lead was too much to handle. QU evened the match by taking the second set 25-21.
Quincy carried their momentum to the third set, as Brown started to heat up notching four kills. The Hawks controlled the entire set, taking a 17-11 advantage midway through.
Sarah Blair served up back-to-back aces to extend the lead to 19-11. Leading by as many as eleven, the Hawks were unstoppable. QU took the lead 2-1 with a 25-14 third set victory.
Five kills early on put the Hawks up 7-2 in the fourth. The Ranger offense came alive and tied the set at 15-15. From there, points were traded back and forth. QU took advantage of two Ranger attack errors to go ahead 23-22. Back-to-back kills and a Quincy attack error gave the Rangers a 25-22 win to force a decisive fifth set.
Wisconsin-Parkside went ahead 9-4 in the fifth and did not let up. QU tried to battle, but the Rangers continued to build to close the frame, 15-8.
(RV) Winona State 3, Quincy 2
The first set started off with a QU service error, but the Hawks tightened it up after that. Neither team could break away as the score sat tied at 20-20 late in the set. QU took control the rest of the way, taking five out of the last six points to take the first set 25-21.
Emily Rehagen led the Hawks with six kills.
The Warriors jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the second, but the Hawks chipped away at the deficit to bring the score to 13-10. Back-to-back service aces extended the Warrior lead and flipped the momentum. Winona State took over and won the second set 25-15.
The third set was a seesaw battle early on, with the Hawks holding the 7-6 advantage. The Warriors proceeded to go on a 10-1 run and never looked back. The ten-point lead was too much for the Hawks to overcome as they dropped the set 25-12.
The most competitive set came in the fourth. Rehagen kicked things off by smashing a kill to give the Hawks the early advantage. Both teams went on to play through 20 ties and eight lead changes. The score sat deadlocked at 25-25 before an
Emma Lynch kill and a Warrior attack error forced a fifth set.
Quincy, playing in its second consecutive five-set match, took a 10-5 lead after two kills apiece from Lynch and
Stephanie Mizeur. The Warriors used three kills of their own and a service ace to get back in the game. A
