Evansville, IN. – The Quincy University baseball team let a five-run lead slip away as the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles avoided the weekend sweep with an 8-7 victory in the series finale on Sunday night.

Cody Birdsong got things started early with a one-out home run to left field, giving the Hawks the early momentum and a 1-0 lead.
The Screaming Eagles had an answer by scoring two runs on a home run to left field to take a 2-1 lead.
The home run barrage continued in the top of the 2nd.
TJ Tamaccio led off the inning with his third blast of the year to tie the game 2-2.
Carter Naughton followed with a single to put a man on base. Southern Indiana then walked three batters in a row to bring another run across for QU. The Hawks led 3-2.
With one out in the inning,
Jeff Hightower kept things going with a single through the left side allowing two runs to come home. Quincy extended their lead to 5-2.
In the top of the 3rd, the Hawks scored an unearned run after a single by
Lance Logsdon brought home Tamaccio who got on base after a USI error. The Hawks led 6-2.
QU scored again in the 4th inning after an RBI double by
Carter Naughton brought in
TJ Tamaccio. It was Tamaccio's third time crossing home plate in four innings as the Hawks led 7-2 after the 4th.
Southern Indiana came roaring back in the next two innings. The Screaming Eagles scored a pair of runs in the 5th followed by a four spot in the 6th inning.
USI scored on a two-out single that brought in two runs in the 5th inning. QU now held a 7-4 lead.
Southern Indiana charged back again in the 6th. A single and RBI double made the score 7-5 and ended starter
Aaron Stone's outing.
Three straight walks allowed another run to cross leaving Quincy a slim 7-6 lead. The Screaming Eagles tied the game on a passed ball in the next at-bat.
USI regained the lead on a wild pitch to make the score 8-7.
With the momentum on their side, Southern Indiana held on to the 8-7 lead for the final three innings. The Hawks were able to get a runner in scoring position just once in the final three frames.
