EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Quincy University softball team split its doubleheader with the top team in the GLVC Southern Indiana on Sunday afternoon (Mar. 31). The Hawks dropped game one 8-0 before using a three-run seventh inning to win game two 6-5.

Game 1
Southern Indiana was first to strike in the first game of the day. The Eagles scored three runs on three hits and one QU error in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
Alex DeVaney kept the home team off balance in the second inning, only needing ten pitches to retire the top of the Eagles lineup.
USI scored one run in each of the next two innings to take a 5-0 lead into the fifth.
The Hawks were unable to push any runs across in the top of the frame.
USI scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth to take the first game 8-0.
Game 2
Both teams were held scoreless in the opening inning as
Sara Demuth retired the first three USI batters with eight pitches.
The Eagles used a QU error to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
The Hawks responded in the top of third with back-to-back home runs. Walsh roped one over the left field fence on a full count with one out to tie it at 1-1.
Megan Sharpshair followed with a deep homer to center field to give QU a 2-1 lead.
USI used a solo home run in the bottom of the frame to tie the score.
The Hawks regained the lead in the fourth with an RBI fielder's choice by
Kylie Powers.
Morgan Heckman scored on the play to make the score 3-2.
The Eagles tied it up once again in the bottom of the frame and used a two-run sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Quincy rallied in the top of the seventh. Sharpshair drew a one-out walk to put a runner on first.
Kay Bettendorf reached base on a fielder's choice and an error allowed Sharpshair to score to cut the lead to 5-4.
The Hawks tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI groundout from Kernich.
Morgan Heckman hit a two-out double to to right field and scored the go-ahead run on an RBI double by
Remi Ferguson. QU led 6-5.
Mac Kenzie Collier came into the game in the bottom of the seventh and shut down the Eagles to give the Hawks the victory.
