QUINCY, Ill. – The men's and women's tennis programs won their GLVC home opener over Truman State on Saturday afternoon (March 23). The men swept the Bulldogs 7-0 while the women collected a 6-1 victory.
Men's
The Hawks were dominant in Saturday's contest as nearly every match was won in straight sets.
Brenden Everhart won in comeback fashion during his singles match. The freshman won 6-7, 7-5, and 10-6.
Samuele Contestabile won 6-1, 6-1, and
Erik Weiler won 6-1, 6-2 in their singles match ups.
Dane Mechali defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-1 to move to 9-3 in singles this season.
Collin Adams won his match 7-5, 6-0, and
Patrick Anderson capped off singles action with a 6-4, 6-0 win.
In doubles play, the pairing of Everhart and Weiler defeated their TSU opponents 7-6 (2). Adams and Contestabile handled their business with a dominant 6-1 win, and Mechali and Anderson won 6-3 to round out the men's sweep.
Women's
On the women's side,
Makaela Hampton won her singles match 7-5, 6-1.
Nicole Lao followed with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win.
Marta Caballero-Garcia won her match 6-4, 6-1 over Finessa Rassel of Truman.
Anna Konczak collected a 6-1, 7-5 win for her seventh singles win of the spring.
Abby Moore did not lose a set in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory to round out the action.
In doubles play, Hampton and Lao pulled off a tight 7-6 win.
Rita Kanaeva and Moore won their pairing 6-2, and Konczak alongside Cabellero-Garcia finished the double's sweep with a 6-1 victory.
Both teams are now 6-6 on the season.
