Box Score 2 HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Quincy University men's and women's tennis teams each earned wins over Kutztown on Monday (Mar. 11) on the clay courts on the PTR Tennis Fest. The women won in a clean sweep, 7-0, while the men came away with a 5-2 victory.
Women's
Singles
All six Hawks were victorious in singles action.
At No. 1 singles,
Rita Kanaeva won 6-3, 6-1 and
Makaela Hampton also won 6-2, 6-4.
Nicole Lao continued the domination by the Hawks with a win over her Kutztown opponent 6-2, 6-2.
Marta Caballero-Garcia had to play from behind in her match after dropping the first set 1-6. She would pull out the second set by a score of 7-6 (3) and win the tie-breaker 10-7.
Senior
Anna Konczak won convincingly at the No. 5 spot 6-3, 6-2.
Abigail Moore rounded it out for the Hawks by making quick work of her opponent, winning by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
Doubles
In doubles play, Hampton paired with Lao to defeat the Bears 6-2, at the top position.
At No. 2 doubles, Konczak and Caballero-Garcia knocked off Kutztown 6-4.
Kanaeva and Moore rattled off a 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.

Singles
Brandon Everhart pulled out a tough win at the No. 1 spot. After splitting the first two sets 6-3, 1-6, he would go on to win the tie-breaker 10-8.
The Bears recorded their only point in singles action at the No.2 spot over QU's
Erik Weiler.
Samuele Contestabile took down his Kutztown opponent 7-5, 6-1 at the No.3 spot.
At No.4 singles,
Dane Mechali won 6-2 after his opponent retired due to cramps at the conclusion of the first set.
Collin Adams and
Patrick Anderson finished off the Bears after rolling through their opponents by scores of 6-1,6-1 and 6-0, 6-2, respectively.
Doubles
After dropping the first two doubles matches to tie-breakers, Mechali and Anderson swept their opponents 6-0 for QU's only victory in doubles action.
