Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Ia. – The men's tennis team picked up their first wins of the season by defeating Wartburg College 9-0 and Cornell College 6-2 on Saturday (Feb 23).
QU vs. Wartburg
The Hawks looked dominant in Saturday's first match and swept the dual-contest 9-0.
Singles
Samuele Contestabile and
Dane Mechali nearly shutout their opponents in singles action. Contestabile won 6-0, 6-1 for his third single win of the spring. Mechali also got is third win in singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Erik Weiler collected his second victory in singles this spring with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win.
Collin Adams leads the team in singles wins now with four. He moved to 4-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over his opponent.
Brendan Everhart won his match 6-3, 6-1 as well. Junior
Patrick Anderson won a long comeback match after dropping the first set 7-6. Anderson went on to win the next twists 6-2, 10-4 to win the game and seal the singles sweep for QU.
Doubles
The pairings of
Erik Weiler and
Collin Adams as well as
Dane Mechali and
Patrick Anderson each defeated their Wartburg opponents 8-1.
Brendan Everhart and
Samuele Contestabile won by a more narrow margin 8-6.
QU vs. Cornell
Singles
In Quincy's second game of the day, Everhart, Contestabile, Mechali, and Adams all added singles wins to their 2019 campaign.
With impending weather in Mount Vernon, the matchup with Cornell was cut short during
Patrick Anderson's singles contest. He was leading 6-1, 3-2.
Doubles
The duo with
Erik Weiler and Colin Adams blanked their opponent in doubles 8-0.
Mechali and Anderson also brought home an 8-1 win for their second of the day as a pairing.
