KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Rockhurst Hawks were able to defeat the Quincy Hawks men's basketball team 71-50 Thursday evening (Feb. 14). The second half proved to be the difference as Rockhurst pulled away from Quincy after a strong shooting performance in game's final 20 minutes.
Play by Play
1st Half
A slugfest ensued from the opening tip in the battle of the Hawks.
Rockhurst scored the game's first four points before
Tanner Stuckman drained a three-pointer to bring the score to 4-3.
After five minutes of play, the Rockhurst Hawks held a 12-5 lead over QU.
Tanner Stuckman drained a second three-pointer and drilled a jumper on back to back possessions to bring the score to 15-10.
Quincy tied the game at 15-15 with 12:57 to play in the first half. A three-pointer by
Jah-Kobe Womack and a layup by Stuckman tied the score.
QU took its first lead of the game at the 11:36 mark with a pair of free-throws by
De'Andre Alexander.
Three minutes later, the scored stood at 23-23 with 8:14 to play in the half.
Over the next six minutes, just six points were scored between the two teams. Rockhurst held a four-point lead with 2:27 to play in the half.
Quincy was able to trim the lead to two with fifty-eight seconds to play in the game's first 20 minutes of action.
A layup by Chris Hamil sent Rockhurst into the half with a 32-28 lead over QU.
2nd Half
Rockhurst opened the second half on an 8-0 run over the first five minutes.
Jah-Kobe Womack made a free-throw to end the run.
A three-pointer by Chris Hamil gave Rockhurst a 12-point lead with 14:30 to play
Quincy cut the lead to 11 following a free-throw by
Robby Dosier. This was the closest Quincy could bring the deficit for the remainder of the game.
Rockhurst shot 55% from the field in the second half and made four three-pointers en route to a 71-50 win.
Quincy was held to just 28% shooting in the second half.
Jah-Kobe Womack led the Hawks in scoring with 16 points and he also grabbed eight rebounds.
