ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The QU women's volleyball team took to the road to face #23 Missouri-St. Louis in GLVC action on Friday (Nov. 8). The Hawks were swept in straight sets 23-25, 16-25, 16-25.
1st Set
Quincy and UMSL traded the first two points of the opening set on Friday.
Emily Rehagen was the first to get QU on the board with a kill.
The Tritons scored the next three points to go ahead 4-1. The Hawks answered with a pair of points, including a kill from
Stephanie Mizeur.
Lauren Worl tied the game after her kill made the score 5-5. The 23
rd ranked Tritons went on a 4-0 run to move ahead 9-5. A service error on UMSL stopped the run to make the score 9-6.
Later on in the first set, UMSL took their largest lead, 18-13, following another run of four straight points. Quincy responded as they were able to tie the score 20-20.
During QU's run, Rehagen and
Makayla Knoblauch each tallied kills.
Freshman
Emily Rehagen also added two more kills which gave QU a late 22-21 lead. This lead was short-lived, as UMSL scored the last four of five points to take set one 25-23.
2nd Set
The Hawks hung tough with the ranked Tritons early in set two as the score sat tied 3-3.
After QU took a 4-3 lead, Missouri-St. Louis scored five in a row to jump ahead 8-4. After a timeout by QU,
Lauren Worl collected another kill to end the run by the Tritons.
The home team started another run that gave UMSL their largest lead of the second set at the time. Three straight points allowed the Tritons to move in front 14-8.
QU responded with a kill from Knoblauch then took advantage of three attack errors by UMSL to make the score 14-12.
This was the closest the Hawks came to leading in this set. Missouri-St. Louis pushed their lead to eight points when a QU attack error made the score 23-15. The Tritons took set two 25-16.
3rd Set
The nationally ranked Tritons looked to get the early advantage in the third set, and they did just that by getting the first three points.
Quincy battled back and eventually tied the set at 7-7. Then, the Hawks took an 8-7 lead after an attack error by UMSL.
The rest of set three was the prototypical back-and-forth affair. Missouri-St. Louis took a 12-10 lead before the visiting Hawks charged back with three in a row to regain the advantage.
UMSL distanced themselves again with a four point run which gave them a 16-13 lead. Quincy called a timeout in hopes to stop the momentum.
Out of the short break, the Tritons scored four of the next five to move in front 20-14. The Hawks took another timeout, but it would not be enough to slow Missouri-St. Louis.
The home team closed things out by winning the third set 25-16.
