Hawks Make A Statement In Saturday Sweep

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team made a statement in a sweep of William Jewell at Pepsi Arena on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2). The Hawks bounced back from Friday night's loss to defeat the Cardinals 25-21, 25-15, 25-14.

Emily Rehagen, Lauren Worl, and Alaina Rothermich all reached double-digits, contributing 10 kills apiece.

1st Set
The two teams battled back and forth at the start of the match, as the score sat tied at 9-9. Two kills from Emily Rehagen and Sarah Brown, followed by a Cardinal error, put the Hawks ahead 12-9. William Jewell later used a 4-0 run to retake the lead 14-13. QU rallied, as Rehagen and Lauren Worl each fired home a kill en route to a 5-0 run. The late run put Quincy up 21-17 and forced the visiting team to take a timeout. The timeout had no effect on the Hawks, however, as Rehagen hammered a kill to seal a 25-21 first set victory.

2nd Set
The Cardinals looked to even the score in the second set, as the Hawks found themselves down 6-1 to start. Quincy slowly chipped away at the lead, and then the offense came alive. Stephanie Mizeur, Makayla Knoblauch, Alaina Rothermich, and Lauren Worl slammed down four straight kills to put the Hawks up 11-8. QU never lost the lead again. Mizeur capped off another five-point run by beating the Cardinal defense with a monster kill to make the score 21-12. The Hawks took all of the momentum into the third set, as a kill from Worl and a service ace from Rothermich gave QU the 25-15 set victory.

3rd Set
The third set sat tied at 10-10 when the Hawks made their move. An attack error by the Cardinals was followed by a Stephanie Mizeur kill and a Sarah Blair service ace, allowing QU to go ahead 13-10. The Quincy offense came unglued after that, putting the match out of reach for William Jewell. The Hawks took nine of the next 10 points to extend the lead to 22-11. The huge run was highlighted by three Alaina Rothermich kills. The Cardinals only picked up three more points down the stretch, as Emily Rehagen knocked down two kills to end the match and give Quincy the three-set victory.
