Women's Volleyball Falls In Tough Test With #19 Rockhurst

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team stuck with #19 Rockhurst, but lost in straight sets at Pepsi Arena on Friday night (Nov. 1). The Hawks fell 25-18, 30-28, 25-21.

Emily Rehagen and Makayla Knoblauch each turned in double-double performances to lead the Hawks. Rehagen finished with 16 kills and 12 digs, while Knoblauch added 33 assists and 11 digs.

1st Set
The Hawks got off to a hot start on Friday night in front a packed house. The Quincy offense caught fire early, using kills from Emily Rehagen, Alaina Rothermich, and Stephanie Mizeur to take a 4-1 lead. Rockhurst battled back to even the score at 5-5 and the two teams proceeded to trade points, as their were four more ties before either team built a cushion. That cushion fell in favor of the visiting team. Rockhurst used a 5-1 run late in the set to go ahead 21-16. Makayla Knoblauch fired two kills down the stretch, but the Hawks could not slow down the sixth most efficient offense in the country. Rockhurst went on to take the first set, 25-18.

2nd Set
The crowd at Pepsi Arena was in for a show in the second set, as they saw 13 ties and six lead changes. Quincy was down 8-6 before back-to-back kills from Emily Rehagen and Sarah Brown sparked a four-point run to put the Hawks up 10-8. Rockhurst answered by taking five of the next six points to retake the lead, 13-11. QU battled back, using two more kills from Rehagen to tie the score at 22-22. The Hawks fought off three straight set points before two Rockhurst errors gave the Hawks a set point of their own. Quincy could not close it out, as the two teams continued the highly-competitive set. In the end, two QU errors allowed Rockhurst to edge the Hawks 30-28 and win set two.

3rd Set
Rockhurst scored the first point of the third set, but sophomore Sarah Brown responded with two electric kills. The Hawks used that momentum to extend the lead to 9-4 after two Rockhurst errors and a Stephanie Mizeur kill. The visiting team came right back, scoring the next five points to tie it once again. The score stayed close until Brown and Alaina Rothermich teamed up for back-to-back kills to put QU up 16-13, forcing a Rockhurst timeout. The timeout favored RU, as they went on a 7-2 run to take a 20-18 lead. Lauren Worl and Emily Rehagen stopped the momentum momentarily, slamming home two straight kills. The Hawks were only able to gain one more point, as the top-hitting team in the GLVC finished on a 5-1 run to close out the match.
