Hawks Score Three Goals in Shutout Win Over Lindenwood

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team came into Friday (Nov. 1) night's match up needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Hawks came out with a heightened level of focus and came away with a 3-0 win over the visiting Lindenwood Lions.

1st Half
The opening half of play was relatively quiet as both teams sized each other up. Cooper Reis was able to get off an early shot on goal in the 3rd minute of action, but the slow roller was collected by Lindenwood's keeper.

Justin Armfield had a pair of chances early on, but he missed a shot wide in the 13th minute followed by a header shot in the 18th minute that sailed high.

Lindenwood was not able to get off a shot until the 26th minute when their first attempt sailed over the net. In the 34th minute, the Lions got their first shot on goal with a shot from outside the box, but Adam Whybrow caught the line-drive attempt for the save.

Whybrow made another save in the 40th minute, just before the Hawks turned the momentum quickly in their direction with a goal just forty seconds later. Cooper Reis sent in a free kick that was first touched by Macker Little. Off the rebound deflection from Little, Spencer Van Nest sent in the goal from under ten yards out to give QU the 1-0 lead before halftime.

The score stood at 1-0 as both teams went to the half.

2nd Half
Things heated up in the second half for QU as they looked to ride the momentum of their 40th minute goal. Both teams had shots blocked in the first five minutes of the half.

Neither team got much going offensively until after the 60th minute of the game. Macker Little had a goal called back because of offsides, but the Quincy native stayed locked in. Little would not be denied as he came back with another goal in the 61st minute that gave QU a 2-0 lead. It was Macker Little's third goal of 2019.

Lindenwood tried to respond in the 64th minute, but the shot on goal was saved by Adam Whybrow

The Quincy attack was quick to deliver the knockout blow. In the 67th minute, Macker Little nearly scored his second goal, but had his chance hit the post. Senior transfer Evan Garcia was right there for the rebound and scored his first goal of the season to give QU a commanding 3-0 lead.

With the Hawks firmly in control, the defense looked to keep the shutout intact. Just before the end of the game, in the 89th minute, Lindenwood was awarded a penalty kick in the box. Senior goalkeeper Adam Whybrow swooped to his right to make a diving save.

The Hawks got the shutout and took the 3-0 victory over Lindenwood.
