QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team ended their 2019 season with a 1-0 win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday (Nov. 3).
Macker Little scored the lone goal in QU's victory.
1st Half
The opening half of Sunday's contest was a defensive struggle. Each team combined for just nine total shots in the first forty-five minutes, and both teams had just one shot on goal each.
Senior
Ty Rogers put the lone shot on goal for the Hawks in the first half. The shot in the 13
th minute was saved.
A key factor in the game came just before halftime. The Hawks were given an advantage after one of UMSL's players was given a red card in the 44
th minute. This allowed the Hawks to play with a one-man advantage for the remainder of the game.
The game was scoreless as the clock hit zero in the first half.
2nd Half
Coming out of the locker room and having to play a man down, the Tritons made a change at goalie to start the second half.
Head coach
Mike Carpenter also made a change to his starters for the second half. He inserted Quincy native
Macker Little to begin the final forty-five minutes, and it paid off for Quincy.
Just a minute into the second half, the redshirt freshman scored his fourth goal of the season to give Quincy a 1-0 lead.
Little's goal was all the Hawks needed. The defense held firm after allowing ten shots in the second half.
In the 79
th minute, senior goalkeeper
Adam Whybrow made a full extension save to keep the Tritons off the board.
UMSL had one last chance in the 82
nd minute with another shot on goal, but Whybrow made the save to seal the shutout win for QU.
