Women's Volleyball Gets First GLVC Win Over UIndy

QUINCY, IL – The Quincy University women's volleyball team earned their first GLVC win of the season over the University of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon (Hawktober 5). The Hawks defeated the Greyhounds 3-1 behind double-doubles from Emily Rehagen and Makayla Knoblauch.

1st Set
The Hawks looked to bounce back from last nights' straight-set loss to Bellarmine. Quincy went toe-to-toe with the Greyhounds in the opening set. 

Five different Hawks recorded a kill in the early stages of the first set. Kills by Sarah Brown, Stephanie Mizeur, Emma Lynch, Lauren Worl, and Emily Rehagen gave QU an early 8-6 lead. 

Lauren Worl later slammed down another kill which put the Hawks ahead 13-10. 

Quincy extended its lead to 16-11 after kills from Makayla Knoblauch and Sarah Brown. The Greyhounds called timeout to stop QU's momentum.

The Hawks continued their solid play with a block by Mizeur and Brown. This gave the Hawks a 19-12 lead. 

UIndy came right back with three points in a row to make the score 19-15. Quincy called timeout as they looked to close out the first set. 

Sarah Brown dropped in a kill following the timeout to make the score 20-15 in favor of QU. 

The Hawks kept their momentum rolling and took the last five of six points to win the opening set 25-16.

2nd Set
Quincy kept the good vibes rolling as they scored the first four points of the second set. UIndy finally got on the board after a long volley ended in a Greyhound kill. 

Stephanie Mizeur and Sarah Brown added two kills and pushed Quincy's lead to 7-1. The Greyhounds called timeout to talk things over. 

After the timeout, Quincy got a point to make the score 8-1. From that point Indianapolis scored five in a row to bring the Hawks lead to just 8-6. 

The Hawks remained in front behind a strong attack. A kill by Emily Rehagen gave Quincy a 15-10 lead midway through the set. 

Quincy upped its lead to 18-12 after a kill by Mizeur and an attack error on the Greyhounds. Later in the highly contested set, Lauren Worl collected a kill which brought the score to 22-18 QU. 

UIndy scored back-to-back points to make it a two-score game at 22-20. The Hawks sealed the deal with the next three of four points to take set two 25-21. 

3rd Set
Indianapolis came out in the third set with an added intensity. The Greyhounds quickly scored the first two points of the match to go up 2-0. 

Quincy scored two in a row, including a block by Emma Lynch, to tie the score at two apiece. 

The Greyhounds proceeded to gain some traction by scoring the next six of seven points. They took an 8-3 lead and forced QU to take their first timeout of the set. 

Indianapolis kept the momentum rolling after the timeout and extended their lead to 14-4. A service error by UIndy gave the Hawks a point to bring the score to 14-5 and end the run. 

The Greyhound attack kept their foot on the gas and pushed their lead back up to ten points at 16-6. QU called another timeout. 

Out of the timeout, UIndy continued to roll and ended up taking the the third set 25-19. 

4th Set
After dropping set three, Quincy came out with an edge. Stephanie Mizeur slammed home a kill to help QU jump out to a 4-0 lead. 

The Greyhounds answered back with two points of their own to cut the deficit to two. 

An attack error and another Mizeur kill allowed QU to move in front 6-2. Emma Lynch and Mizeur each got kills as the Hawks remained in the lead by a score of 9-4. 

Lauren Worl and Makayla Knoblauch got in on the action by rising up for a block that made the score 11-5 QU. 

Quincy upped their lead to 13-6 forcing Indianapolis to take a timeout midway through the set. Makayla Knoblauch served up back-to-back service aces after the short break giving QU a 16-8 lead. The service aces were followed by a kill from Sarah Brown

The Hawks were rolling as they continued to hold the lead. Stephanie Mizeur slammed her tenth kill of the match too make the score 19-11. 

Quincy held on to the lead as Emily Rehagen ended the game with her 16th kill. The Hawks won the fourth set 25-15 as they earned their first GLVC win.
