SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Quincy University men's soccer team looked to extend their win streak to four games at the University of Illinois Springfield on Friday night (Hawktober 4). The Hawks took an early lead, but the Prairie Stars came back to win 5-2.
1st Half
The Hawks got off to a hot start in the first half. Redshirt senior
Anthony Christante collected a loose ball and fired a bullet into the bottom right corner of the net just 28 seconds into the match. Christante's third goal of the season put Quincy up 1-0.
The Prairie Stars evened things up in the 15
th minute. UIS scored on a perfectly placed header to tie the game at 1-1.
Aubrey Reis put the pressure on just two minutes later, but his shot was saved by UIS goalkeeper Pijus Petkevicius.
Both teams were quiet until the Prairie Stars were awarded a penalty kick in the 24
th minute. The home team converted to take their first lead of the game 2-1.
The Hawks got two more shots off in the first half, but both were reeled in by Petkevicius.
UIS added one more goal in the 41
st minute to take a 3-1 lead into the half.
2nd Half
QU started the second half just like the first.
Aubrey Reis redirected a cross in the direction of
Cooper Reis, who put the ball between Petkevicius's legs for the goal. The cousin-to-cousin connection cut the lead to 3-2 in the 55
th minute.
The Hawks kept up the offensive pressure. Quincy tallied three shots in the next 20 minutes but none found the mark.
UIS scored in the 86
th minute to put space between the two teams once again.
The Prairie Stars sealed the game one minute later with another goal and went on to win 5-2.
