SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team took GLVC-leading Drury to five sets Saturday afternoon (Hawktober 26). The Hawks fought hard but came up just short, falling 3-2 to the Panthers.
Four Hawks reached double-digit kills, with freshman
Emily Rehagen tallying 20 kills to lead the way.
Sarah Brown totaled 12 kills, while
Alaina Rothermich and
Stephanie Mizeur each added 10.
Makayla Knoblauch turned in a double-double, with 50 assists and 10 digs.
1st Set
The opening set of the match saw 14 ties and multiple lead changes, as it was the most competitive set between the two teams. The Hawks fought off four straight set points by Drury before two Panther errors allowed Quincy to win the first set 30-28.
2nd Set
The Hawks dominated the second set, carrying over the momentum from the end of the first. The set was never in question, as
Emily Rehagen and
Sarah Brown each notched 5 kills to lead QU to a 25-14 set victory.
3rd Set
The undefeated Panthers avoided the sweep, and the tide turned in their favor during the third set. Quincy put a late 3-0 run together behind kills from
Sarah Brown and
Emily Rehagen, but Drury fought off the Hawks to take the third set, 25-21.
4th Set
QU led early on in the fourth set, but the Panthers strung together multiple three- and four-point runs to gain control. The Hawks were unable to end the match as Drury took the fourth set 25-15, forcing a decisive fifth set.
5th Set
The Hawks played the Panthers close, using timely kills from
Emily Rehagen and
Stephanie Mizeur to keep the Drury lead to two at 7-5. The home team proceeded to go on a 4-0 run to go up 11-5. That lead was too much for QU to overcome, as the Panthers took the fifth set 15-8 and secured the 3-2 comeback victory.
