BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team returned to GLVC play on Friday night (Hawktober 25) as they traveled to take on Southwest Baptist. The Hawks defeated the Bearcats 3-1 behind a double-double from
Emily Rehagen.
1st Set
Makayla Knoblauch notched the first kill of the match, as Quincy jumped out to a 5-1 lead. The Hawks held a six-point lead, until the Bearcats answered with a 9-0 run. A kill from Knoblauch and two SBU errors allowed QU to tie the score at 12-12.
Emily Rehagen followed with her first kill of the match and
Emma Holt served up an ace to take back the lead. It was a back and forth battle from there, until three straight kills from Knoblauch,
Stephanie Mizeur, and
Alaina Rothermich gave QU a 21-17 lead. The Hawks kept their foot on the gas, winning the first set 25-20.
2nd Set
Quincy carried momentum into the second set, going ahead 12-6. The Hawks kept that lead until SBU put together an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the set, 18-16. QU fought back, using back-to-back kills from
Emily Rehagen to tie the score at 20-20.
Alaina Rothermich later fired home a kill to put the Hawks at set point up one. The Hawks were unable to seal the deal as the Bearcats scored the last three points, taking the second set 26-24.
3rd Set
The Hawks came out with an added intensity to start the third.
Sarah Brown slammed a kill and
Emily Rehagen recorded back-to-back service aces, propelling QU to a 6-1 lead. Quincy blew the set wide open after that. The Hawks had a ten-point lead before
Stephanie Mizeur put down a kill and
Sarah Blair fooled the Bearcats with a service ace to put the Hawks up 21-8. Quincy's lead was never in question as they cruised to a 25-15 victory.
4th Set
The two teams traded points in the early part of the fourth set. The score sat tied at 7-7 before
Emily Rehagen and
Sarah Brown each tallied a kill, and
Emma Holt secured her second ace of the night to put QU up 10-7. The Hawks never lost the lead after that. Rehagen hammered four more kills down the stretch and Quincy took the set 25-14.
Makayla Knoblauch ended the match with a kill as the Hawks earned the four-set victory.
