Quincy Stumbles At Missouri S&T

ROLLA, MO - The Quincy University women's volleyball team fell 3-1 at Missouri S&T Thursday night (Hawktober 10). The Hawks relied heavily on their defense with 19 blocks and 74 digs, but struggled to get on a role offensively in a tightly-contested match with the Miners.

1st Set
The battle between the two teams started early in the opening set. The score sat tied at 4-4 before the Miners took the next five of six points to go up 9-5.

The Hawks responded with a 4-0 run. Three S&T errors and a Sarah Brown kill allowed QU to tie the score.

Both teams went on their respective runs after that. The Miners used a late surge to take a 24-19 lead and were looking to close out the set when QU came storming back.

A bad set by S&T and two kills apiece from Stephanie Mizeur and Emma Lynch tied the score for the fifth time at 24-24.

The Hawks comeback came up short as S&T scored the next two points to take the first set 26-24.

2nd Set
The second set was much like the first, with 10 ties and five lead changes.

QU came out of the break and scored the first three points. The Hawks led by as many as four before the Miners answered.

The home team used three kills and a service ace to tie it at 6-6.

Neither team led by more than two after that, until the Miners went on another 4-0 run to go up 16-12.

Once again, Quincy answered. Emily Rehagen provided a service ace and Emma Lynch and Sarah Brown each slammed home a kill to get even at 16-16.

The score stayed close until the Miners scored three of the last four points to win 25-23 and edge the Hawks by two for the second-straight set.

3rd Set
The fight continued early on in the third set, with the score sitting deadlocked at 10-10.

S&T scored the next point, but Quincy proceeded to rattle off six straight to take control. Emily Rehagen and Sarah Brown each knocked down kills during that span.

QU was never threatened the rest of the way. Emma Lynch and Stephanie Mizeur both tallied kills down the stretch as the Hawks took the third set 25-16.

4th Set
Madelynne McKeown fired a kill to put the Hawks up 1-0 in the fourth.

The Miners halted Quincy's momentum by scoring the next eight of 11 points to go up 8-4. The Hawks were never able to regain the lead.

Makayla Knoblauch notched a kill to cut the lead to two at 9-7 but that is as close as the Hawks would get.

S&T went on to win the set 25-19 and take the 3-1 victory.
