ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Hawks men's basketball program dropped a GLVC contest to the Lewis Flyers Saturday (Dec. 5) afternoon. The Flyers defeated the Hawks 75-63.
Play by Play
1st Half
Through the first six minutes of action both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net. The Hawks and Flyers sat tied at 7-7 following a three-pointer by
Demetrius Houston with 13:58 to play in the first half.
The Flyers answered with a three-point basket of their own to take a 10-7 lead. This basket sparked a 10-0 run by Lewis and gave the Flyers a 17-7 lead.
Lewis continued the offensive output and limited the Hawks to just 29% shooting in the first half. QU went just 1-12 from behind the arc and trailed Lewis 34-17 after the first 20 minutes of action.
2nd Half
The Hawks opened the second half with a layup by
Jah-Kobe Womack to cut the Flyers lead to 34-19.
A 6-1 run by the Flyers pushed the lead back to 40-20.
The Hawks began to mount a comeback with a pair of three-pointers by Womack and
Robert DeVries to bring the Flyers lead to 40-26 with 16:50 to play.
Womack made a pair of free throws to bring the score to 40-28 with 16:24 remaining in the game.
Lewis pushed their lead back to 44-30 with 13:38 after a layup by the Flyers.
QU trimmed the lead to 10 points just before the 12 minute media timeout.
Midway through the second half, the Flyers held a 16 point lead as the Hawks attempted to claw back into the matchup.
A jumper by
Tanner Stuckman and a pair of free throws by
Ryan Briscoe cut the lead to 12 with eight and a half minutes to play.
With six minutes remaining, the Hawks brought the lead to single digits as the Flyers led 59-50.
The Hawks continued to fight cutting the lead to 64-58 with 2:28 to play after a layup by
Ryan Briscoe.
Adam Rischke scored the next five points for Lewis and pushed the lead back to 69-58. The Flyers free throw shooting propelled Lewis to a 75-63 win.
