Quincy Grabs GLVC Win At Indianapolis In OT

INDIANAPOLIS, In. – The Quincy University women's basketball team defeated Indianapolis in overtime 67-59 to open GLVC play. Aleksandra Petrovic and Alexa Low combined for 32 points in the win. 

1st Quarter
The Hawks pushed the pace in the opening quarter. Aleksandra Petrovic knocked down a jump shot to give QU a 13-6 lead with 3:17 left in the quarter. 

Quincy held the lead for all but 50 seconds in the first, but Indianapolis ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 14-14.

2nd Quarter
The Hawks committed just one turnover in the first quarter, but QU turned it over seven times in quarter number two. 

Michaela Gronewold scored the first basket of the quarter to give Quincy a 16-14 lead. 

The Greyhounds responded with a 10-0 run. UIndy charged ahead taking a 24-16 lead with five minutes remaining in the quarter. 

Petrovic scored the next four points to get some momentum back for Quincy. 

At the half, the Hawks trailed 28-22.

3rd Quarter
In the second half, the Hawks were able to keep the score close. 

Indianapolis scored the first six points out of the break and led 34-22 with eight minutes to play in the third. 

At the seven minute mark, Quincy scored six straight. Maddie Spagnola and Alexa Low led the run to get QU back within six 39-33. 

Aleksandra Petrovic ended the quarter with a made field goal to make the score 46-38 going into the fourth. 

4th Quarter
QU turned it up on both ends in the fourth quarter. Quincy outscored Indianapolis 17-9 and held the Greyhounds to just 21% shooting from the field in the 4th. 

The Hawks showed urgency by opening with a 10-3 run. The seven point change made the score 49-48 Indy with under five minutes left. 

Quincy later trailed 55-49 with under three minutes to play. Alexa Low, Aleksandra Petrovic, and Michaela Gronewold all scored baskets to tie the game at 55. 

The Hawks had a chance for the win at the end of regulation, but Gronewold could not make her shot off the inbound play at the buzzer. 

Overtime
Momentum carried over into overtime for QU. The Hawks offense was efficient by ending the game shooting 83% (5-6) from the field. 

On the defensive end, Quincy continued to wreak havoc. The Greyhounds went 2-13 in the overtime period opening the door for the Hawks to hang on at the end.

Quincy moved to 2-1 in GLVC play with a 67-59 overtime win.
