QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team struggled with turnovers in a 77-65 loss to Illinois-Springfield on Saturday afternoon.
Play by Play
1st Half
Quincy looked off rhythm early in the game. The Hawks committed 11 turnovers and scored just seven points in the first quarter.
The Prairie Stars took advantage and got out to a 19-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, QU looked more in-sync on offense.
Maddie Spagnola got her team within single digits after a 3-pointer to open the quarter. QU trailed 19-10.
Michaela Gronewold put the Hawks within six after a jump shot. Her basket made the score 20-14.
With under five minutes to play, UIS made a run. The Prairie Stars scored seven straight to pull ahead 35-20.
In the final seconds of the first half, Spagnola converted a lay up to make the score 39-30. With three seconds left, UIS guard Jasmine Sangster made a half court shot at the buzzer to give the Prairie Stars ahead 42-20.
2nd Half
Quincy started off the second half with the first three points off free throws.
Three minutes into the third quarter the score sat at 46-36 after a free throw by
Grace Schraufnagel.
Illinois-Springfield pushed their lead back to double figures with under five minutes in the third quarter. A made 3-pointer made the score 53-39.
The Hawks came back with seven straight points to cut the UIS lead to 53-46.
Ella Gobald knocked in a three and
Aleksandra Petrovic converted in the paint to spark the run.
UIS scored the last five points in the 3rd quarter and led 58-46 going to the final period.
In the fourth, the Hawks tried to climb back into the game, but the Prairie Stars kept QU at bay.
The Hawks never got within less than 12 points and fell 77-65.
