QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team dropped a non-conference matchup to Benedictine University on Saturday (Jan 26.). The Hawks fell 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 22-25, 19-25).
Play by Play
1st Set
The Hawks and Eagles sat tied at 8-8 in the opening set of the match. QU used a 5-0 run to grab a 13-8 lead. A pair of service aces by
Blake Sprecher led the Hawks on the scoring run.
The Eagles took five of the next six points to cut the Hawks lead to 14-13. The back and forth battle continued throughout the first set. With the scored tied a 18-18, Quincy scored seven of the set's 10 points to win 25-21.
Quincy tallied 12 kills in the set and forced the Eagles to commit six attack errors.
2nd Set
Benedictine jumped out to a 6-3 lead in an effort to tie the match at one set a piece.
Quincy cut the lead to one after a kill by Sprecher and a service ace by
Stevie Bresser.
Benedictine led 15-14 midway through the second set.
A 5-0 run gave the Eagles a 20-14 lead. Quincy's comeback in the set fell short and Benedictine won the second set 25-21.
3rd Set
Benedictine opened the third set by scoring the set's first four points.
Despite the early deficit, the Hawks clawed back and tied the set at 9-9.
A 6-2 run by the Eagles gave Benedictine a 15-11 lead. Four Eagles kills and a pair of Hawks miscues guided Benedictine during the run.
Trailing 21-16 in the third set, Quincy brought the score to 23-22. The Hawks comeback again fell short as the Eagles scored the final two points and took the third set 25-22.
4th Set
Facing a 2-1 set deficit, Quincy fell behind 14-13 midway through the set. A 5-0 run gave the Eagles controlling 19-13 lead.
The Hawks refused to go quietly and trimmed the lead to 23-19.
Quincy could not send the match to decisive fifth set, falling 25-19 in the fourth set. The Hawks committed 10 attack errors in the set.
