Hawks Comeback Falls Short In Loss to UIS

QUINCY, Ill. - With two seconds remaining, the Hawks men's basketball team got a clean look from three-point range as QU looked to tie the game.  Ryan Briscoe's shot was off the mark and the Hawks fell to the University of Illinois-Springfield 80-77.  

Play by Play

1st Half

Quincy charged out to a 10-3 lead after a pair of three-pointers by Jah-Kobe Womack and Demetrius Houston.  

Womack continued his strong start by scoring five straight points as the Hawks led 15-7 with with 14:43 to play in the first half.  

A 10-0 run by the Prairie Stars gave Illinois-Springfield a 17-15 lead two minutes later.  

The Hawks responded to the Prairie Stars offense and grabbed a 21-19 lead with 8:52 remaining in the opening half.  

Both teams battled and neither team could gain an advantage with two minutes to play in the half.  QU and UIS were tied a 32-32 following a layup by Aziz Fadika.  

The Prairie Stars ended the half on a 9-3 run to take a 41-35 lead into the half.  

2nd Half

Illinois-Springfield opened the half by extending their lead to 18 points with 15:37 to play in the game.  

The Hawks locked in defensively, holding the Prairie Stars scoreless over the next five minutes.  During that span, QU went on an 11-0 run to bring the score to 58-51 in favor of Illinois-Springfield.  

 Quincy's tenacity on defense allowed for QU to claw back into the game.  With 4:51 to play the Hawks cut the lead to one after a layup by Tanner Stuckman

The Prarie Stars attempted to push the game out of reach by extending their lead to eight with a minute and a half to play.  

Jah-Kobe Womack drilled a three-pointer and Ryan Briscoe drained a pair of free-throws to cut the lead to three with 54 seconds to play.  

A free-throw by the Prairie Stars made the lead four with fifty seconds remaining.  

On the Hawks, following possession, Briscoe nailed an open three to again bring the lead within one.  

The Prairie Stars made a pair of free throws to push the lead to three with eight seconds remaining.  

Briscoe's three-pointer was off the mark and QU could not complete the comeback against the Prairie Stars.
