QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball team dropped a close matchup with the McKendree Bearcats 89-85 on Thursday night. The Hawks were outscored by ten points in the second half.
1st Half
The Hawks got off on the right foot in Thursday's contest.
Jah-Kobe Womack hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give QU an early 6-2 lead.
Quincy expanded the lead to 10-4 after lay ups by
Ryan Briscoe and
Aziz Fadika.
With eleven minutes to play, the Hawks gained their largest lead at the time. A made lay up from
Tanner Stuckman brought the score to 23-13.
Ryan Briscoe extended the Hawks' lead to 31-17 after a 3-point basket with 8:23 remaining.
The Bearcats responded b y going on a 15-3 run. With three minutes left in the half, the Hawks' lead was now just two points.
Just before the half,
Tanner Stuckman connected from deep to give QU a 43-37 lead.
2nd Half
McKendree's offense roared back in the second half. In five minutes, McKendree tied the game at 52-52.
On the following possessions, both teams exchanged threes including one from
Demetrius Houston.
At the half way point in the second half, Jan-Kobe Womack gave QU a 65-63 lead with a made lay up.
A minute and a half later, McKendree held a 68-66 lead when Womack knocked in a pair of free throws to tie the score once again.
With just under eight minutes to play,
Tanner Stuckman put the Hawks ahead 70-69 after a made shot in the paint. This would be QU's final lead of the game.
McKendree gained the lead on the following possession with a short lay in.
With a minute and a half remaining, the Bearcats held a 82-80 lead.
Ryan Briscoe missed his first free throw but made his second. QU trailed 82-81.
Two made free throws by McKendree then a lay up by
Aziz Fadika left the score at 84-83 with thirty seconds to play.
The Bearcats went 5-6 the remainder of the way from the free throw line to fend off the Hawks 89-85. McKendree's offense shot 70% from the field in the second half of play.
