QUINCY, Ill. - A back and forth battle between the Quincy University Hawks and the Davenport Panthers saw the Panthers edge the Hawks 26-10.
Play by Play
First Quarter
The Panthers began the game with a solid opening drive all the way to the Hawks seven-yard line. The Hawk defense mounted a defensive stand to keep the Panthers out of the end zone. A blocked field goal attempt kept the score 0-0 and gave the Hawks the ball at their own 20-yard line.
QU was forced to punt on their opening possession and gave the ball back to the Panthers.
Davenport used a nine play, 64-yard drive to take a 7-0 lead over the Hawks with just over two minutes to play in the first quarter.
Second Quarter
The Hawks punted again on their next possession and the Panthers took over on their own 16-yard line.
On the Panthers second play of the possession,
Bryce Johnson forced a fumble that was recovered by
Jordan Wynn at the Panthers 21-yard line.
The Hawks cut into the Panthers lead with a 43-yard field goal by
Michael Klotz.
With nine minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Panthers took over with the ball at their own 20-yard line. On the fifth play of the possession,
Clayton Cole stepped in front of a pass for his first interception of the season.
QU attempted a 40-yard field goal but it was blocked and the Panthers took over at the Hawks 47-yard line.
The Hawks defense held firm and moved another Panther punt just before the half.
Unfortunately for QU,
Chris Brinson fumbled on the second play of the drive to give Davenport the ball at the QU 10-yard line.
The Panthers took advantage to take a 13-3 lead into the half.
Third Quarter
The Hawks opening possession of the second half resulted in a six-yard rushing touchdown for
Tionne Harris to cut the Panthers lead to 13-10.
With 7:21 remaining in the third quarter the Panthers took over on their own 13-yard line. On the seventh play of the possession, quarterback Haiden Majewski found a streaking receiver for a 64-yard touchdown pass. The Panthers led the Hawks 20-10.
Fourth Quarter
A pair of field goals by the Panthers gave Davenport a 26-10 lead with nine minutes to play in the game.
Quarterback
Tionne Harris was intercepted twice in the quarter and the Hawks fell to the Panthers 26-10.
