Hawks Score Two Penalty Kicks in 3-1 Win Over Lewis

QUINCY, IL. - The Quincy University men's soccer team defeated Lewis 3-1 on Friday night (Sept. 23). The Hawks converted two penalty kicks which proved to be the difference.

Play by Play
The Hawks came into tonight's game tied for second in the GLVC in offensive output, and they would continue that trend.

Quincy looked dialed in early. The Hawks outshot the Flyers 4-1 in the first 30 minutes of play. One of those four shots was a bending corner kick by Cooper Reis. Reis booted the corner from the nearside and bent it towards the net. Lewis' goalkeeper Edgar Avila jumped up and tapped the ball over the net for the save.

The persistent pressure by the Hawk offense paid off in the 37th minute. Lewis committed a hard foul in the box on a Quincy attack to set up a penalty kick. Captain Cooper Reis lined it up and put the shot in for his third goal of the season.

A minute later, Lewis once again was caught off balance and committed another foul in the goalie box. This time, Kingsford Adjei lined up the shot. With a little hesitation move, Adjei was able to bury the shot and give Quincy a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks continued to be aggressive. Aubrey Reis scored in his fourth straight game with a laser from 25 yards out.

Lewis got on the board in the 61st minute after a header goal off a corner kick.

Quincy's defense settled in the rest of the way. Goalkeeper Adam Whybrow saved the only shot put on goal in the remaining 30 minutes.

The Hawks moved into a tie for second in the GLVC with Friday's win.
