QUINCY, IL - The Quincy University men's soccer team defeated Missouri S&T 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. Aubrey and
Cooper Reis each scored two goals in the victory.
Play by Play
The first 40 minutes of the game was quiet as QU only had three shots. The Hawks finally broke through in the 42nd minute.
A foul by the Miners just outside the top of the box allowed for a free kick.
Cooper Reis took the kick and belted a shot from 19 yards out. His shot made it past the keeper and Quincy held a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Quincy put the foot on the gas pedal in the second half. The Hawks put up two shots in the first minute, but neither found the back of the net.
Missouri S&T equalized the game in 47th minute. Eric Ferenbach put his shot in the net from just 4 yards out.
That would be the only goal for the Miners as Quincy's offense stepped up.
In the 57th minute,
Hayden Tucker put a shot on goal but it was deflected by the S&T goalkeeper. Tucker collected the rebound and fired another shot that went in to put QU ahead 2-1.
Only a minute later,
Cooper Reis scored his second goal of the game. His second goal came off a penalty kick after a hard foul by Missouri S&T in the box.
Quincy's leading scorer,
Aubrey Reis, had been held scoreless for a majority of the game. In the 70th minute, the midfielder broke through with a score off a deflected save for his 6th goal of the season.
Reis capped off the contest with another goal in the 75th minute. Reis scored from 20 yards out and was assisted by Max Van der Heijen.
The Hawks last scored five goals in a game in 2016 in a 5-1 win over William Jewell.
