Hawks Draw at Rockhurst 2-2

KANSAS CITY, MO. - The Quincy University men's soccer team tied Rockhurst 2-2 on Friday night in the first conference game of the season.

Play by Play
Rockhurst tested the Quincy defense early. RU scored on a deflected save by goal keeper Adam Whybrow to take an early 1-0 lead in the 7th minute.

It did not take long for QU to answer. In the 12th minute, Aubrey Reis bent his corner kick into the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Reis continued to apply pressure to the Rockhurst back line. In the 25th minute, Reis was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. He buried the shot, and Quincy gained the lead 2-1. It was Reis' fifth goal so far in 2018.

Quincy had two more scoring opportunities before the half, but both shots were blocked. Quincy's defense allowed just one shot by Rockhurst after Reis' second goal. QU went into the break with a 2-1 lead.

Rockhurst came out of the half with more intensity on offense. RU put two quick shots up in the first five minutes but both were wide.

Rockhurst tied the game in the 73rd minute after a shot from 18 yards out rolled past Whybrow.

Quincy looked to break the tie after putting three shots on goal in a five minute span. In the 80th minute, Cooper Reis had a shot that was saved, and Justin Armfield had two header shots saved in the 83rd and 84th minute.

Rockhurst nearly took the game at the end of regulation. In the last ten seconds, Rockhurst's Noah Mabry ripped a shot, but it was blocked by defender Alec Roussin to send the game to overtime.

In the first overtime, Quincy was held without a shot, and all three shots by Rockhurst missed the mark. The game would go to a second overtime.

In the second overtime, Rockhurst out-shot Quincy 3-1. In the 104th minute, Rockhurst nearly won it, but the shot by Chandler Peterson hit the post.

Both teams couldn't break through and the game resulted in a 2-2 draw.
