Indianapolis, IN. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team dropped two games on the final day of the University of Indianapolis Invitational. The Hawks lost 3-0 to #17 Colorado School of Mines and fell to Upper Iowa 3-1.
Play by Play
Game 1
Quincy played well to open the first set. Both teams exchanged points and QU had an early 6-5 lead. Mines answered with a four-point run to go up 9-6, and the Hawks were unable to regain the lead. The Orediggers took set one 25-17.
Mines came out firing in set two. With QU leading 2-1, the Orediggers rattled off seven straight points to go up 8-2. The Hawks tried to get back into the game with a four-point run that brought the score to 21-18. Both teams then traded a pair of points to bring the score to 23-20. After another point by Mines, Quincy scored three straight to make the score 24-23. Mines scored the next point and the set to take a 2-0 lead.
The Hawks grabbed an 11-7 lead to begin the third set. Mines responded yet again by scoring seven of the next eight points. QU answered that run with five straight and regain the lead 18-15. The Orediggers finished the game by scoring five straight points to finish straight-set sweep 25-21.
Game 2
In game 2, Quincy found themselves in an early 9-3 deficit. The Hawks climbed back into the set after scoring three straight to make the score 17-16 in favor of the Peacocks. Upper Iowa fended off the Hawks and took set one 25-20.
Quincy turned it around in set two and jumped ahead 7-1. The Hawks never trailed in the set. To end the set, the Hawks scored five of the last six points to win the set 25-19.
In set three, Upper Iowa took advantage early by going up 8-2. The Hawks responded with four straight points to cut the lead to 8-6. After a point by Upper Iowa, Quincy tied it by tallying the next three points.
With Quincy ahead 22-19, the Peacocks tied the game with back-to-back kills and a service ace to bring the game to 22-22. The Hawks were on the brink of tying the match when they led 24-23. Upper Iowa took set three after scoring three consecutive points.
With the score reading 6-2 in favor of QU, Upper Iowa scored eight straight points to go ahead 10-6. The Hawks battled back to tie the set late at 24-24. Kills by Taylor McMonagle and Stephanie Mizeur allowed for the tie.
Both teams exchanged points which made the score 25-25. Upper Iowa won the set with a kill and a block to take the set 27-25.
