Around the 30th minute, the Hawks applied the offensive pressure. Hawk strikers put four shots toward the net in a five minute span. In the 32nd minute, sophomore midfielder Simon Chretien delivered a header on goal, but the shot was saved by Northeastern State's goalkeeper, Thomas Salenbien.

Just before the half, Quincy had another scoring chance on a shot from Eduardo Vivanco, but the shot was hauled in by Salenbien. In the 42nd minute, defender Ben Mero received the first yellow card of the season on a hard foul. Northeastern did not take advantage and the score was knotted 0-0 at the half.

Quincy outshot the RiverHawks 7-3 after the first half, but Northeastern came out in the second half with a more offensive mindset.
