QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy women's volleyball team defeated Mississippi College 25-21, 25-19, 26-24 and the University of Texas Permian-Basin 25-17, 25-22, 25-22 to improve to 4-0 on the season. The Hawks won 12 of 13 sets in a strong opening weekend.
Play by Play:
Game 1
The Hawks started quickly in game one by going ahead 8-3. Mississippi College followed with an eight point run to put the Choctaws ahead 11-8. Later in the set, Mississippi College held a 17-16 lead before Quincy scored six straight points. The Hawks rode the momentum and won the first set 25-21.
In set two, the Hawks led 16-15 before they rattled off four straight to pull ahead 20-15. Freshman

The Hawks got ahead early in set three and jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The Choctaws regained command after a five-point run made the score 17-15. The Hawks took back the lead after blocks by McKeown and Brown brought the score to 22-21.
The Hawks overcame three late lead changes to hold on for a 26-24 set win.
Game 2
The Hawks jumped ahead 7-0 in the opening set in game two. The Falcons came back to cut the score to 16-13. QU rallied for the final five points of the set to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, Quincy grabbed a 10-3 lead. The Falcons made a late run, trimming the score to 23-17. UTPB scored five straight points to make it close at 23-22. QU scored back-to-back points to win the second set.
Set three was tightly contested as both teams traded points. The lead changed five times, and both teams had a five point run in the set.
About midway through the third set, Quincy trailed 13-12. A service error and an attack error allowed QU to take the lead. The Hawks didn't look back as they held on for the straight set win to start their season 4-0.
