QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team opened up their regular season with a 3-0 victory over Cameron University and a 3-1 win over Union University.
The Hawks defeated Cameron 25-23, 25-17, and 25-22 in the first game and then won 25-10, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19 over Union.

Game 1
The Hawks got off to a bit of a slow start as they trailed most of the first half of set one. At one point, QU trailed 17-7 before rattling off five straight points to bring the game back in reach at 17-12.
Cameron responded to Quincy's run with three points of their own to make the score 20-12. The Hawks remained focused and scored eight of the next nine points to bring the game to 21-20. The eight point run finished with three straight kills from
Taylor McMonagle,
Alaina Rothermich, and
Lucy Grenda.
Quincy closed with five of the last six points as McMonagle and sophomore
Kaeley Mueller got the game-winning block to cap the comeback.
Quincy commanded set two and trailed just once. Cameron made things interesting after falling behind early. The Aggies made a five-point run midway through the set to cut Quincy's lead 14-13.
QU scored five of the last six late to take set two. McMonagle put the Hawks ahead 2-0 with her third kill in the set.
The Hawks started hot in the third set by jumping out to an 8-2 lead. Cameron did not go down easily as they outscored Quincy 11-5 to tie the game at thirteen.
After a timeout by Quincy, neither team could pull away as the lead changed eight times. With the score at 22-22, the Hawks continued to finish strong. Quincy got three straight points including a kill from freshman
Sarah Brown and
Alaina Rothermich to make the score 24-22. Quincy sealed the win after Brown and Rothermich blocked an attack attempt.
Game 2
The Hawks came out firing on all cylinders in the first set of game two. Quincy took an early 17-7 lead over the Bulldogs. QU held the lead for a 25-10 first set win
Union answered back with a second set win 25-22.
In set three, the Hawks came from behind to go ahead two sets to one. At the midway point, QU trailed 17-12 but rallied for five straight points to bring to score to 17-16 Union.
The Bulldogs increased their lead to 22-18, but Quincy came alive for four straight points. The Hawks tied the game after a kill by senior
Lauren Nadler. Quincy went on to take the third set 25-23.
Quincy continued to finish games with scoring runs in set four. The Hawks were down 18-17 before taking eight of the last nine points to ensure the win. Sophomore
Alaina Rothermich scored the final two points for Quincy as they move to 2-0.
