QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks baseball team took the GLVC weekend series from Missouri S&T with two wins on Sunday (Apr. 22).  The Hawks won the doubleheader with scores of 3-2 and 5-1.  
Play by Play:
Game 1
Jimmy McDonald was masterful in his complete game win over the Miners in game one.  After allowing a run in the top of the first, McDonald settled in.  
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Brynn Martinez reached on an error by the shortstop to lead off the frame.  Martinez advanced to second on a throwing error by the pitcher.  JC DeMuri singled home Martinez and the game was tied at 1-1.  
Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the fifth inning.  With two outs in the inning, Lucas Swindle doubled to score Nathan Volkmann to give the Miners a 2-1 lead.  
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Troy Wehde led off the inning with a single.  
Michael Nielsen blasted a two-run home run to left field to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead. The Hawks took a one-run lead into the final inning of play.  
Jimmy McDonald struck out the first two batters in the inning.  After a two-out walk and a stolen base, McDonald got a groundout to finish his complete game.  
McDonald scattered seven hits while striking out six in his fourth win of the year.  
Game 2
Aaron Stone continued the strong pitching day for the Hawks.  Stone allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings of work.  
QU took the lead in the bottom of the third inning as JC DeMuri lifted a sac fly to center field to score Brynn Martinez.  
The Hawks added another run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by senior catcher Jake Viaene.  
The Miners scored a run in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 2-1.  
In the top of the seventh, Stone allowed a double to lead off the inning.  A sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third with one out in the inning.  
A call to the bullpen brought on freshman Jack Widhalm to replace Stone.  Widhalm got a strikeout and a line out to end the Miners threat.  
QU added a run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by JC DeMuri which scored TJ Tamaccio. 
Alex Pribyl worked a scoreless eighth inning and the Hawks came to bat.  
The Hawks took advantage of Miners miscues and plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth and push the lead to 5-1.  
Cole Crawford worked a perfect ninth and the Hawks took the final game of the series 5-1.
