Hawks Softball Extends Win Streak With Sweep Of #18 UIS

QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks softball team extended its win streak to four games with a sweep of #18 Illinois Springfield Saturday (Apr. 21).  The Hawks won game one 8-4 and game two 5-2.     

Play by Play:

Game 1
After retiring the side in the top of the first, the Hawks struck in the bottom half of the inning.    

Three straight singles loaded the bases for the Hawks in the bottom of the first.  Megan Sharpshair walked to force in a run and give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.  

Remi Ferguson broke open the game as she gave the Hawks a 5-0 lead with a grand slam to clear the bases.  

The Hawks loaded the bases for the second time in the first inning but were unable to extend their lead.  

Illinois Springfield plated three runs in the top of the second.  The Prairie Stars scored their runs on a three-run home run and bring the score to 5-3.  

Kay Bettendorf blasted a solo shot to lead off the second inning and give the Hawks a 6-3 lead.  

QU extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth as Morgan Heckman singled home Megan Sharpshair and the Hawks led UIS 7-3.  

Illinois Springfield homered in the top of the fifth to cut the Hawks lead to 7-4.  

Megan Sharpshair drove home another run in the bottom of the fifth to give QU an 8-4 lead.  

Mac Kenzie Collier held the Prairie Stars in check for the remainder of the game and the Hawks won the first game of the doubleheader 8-4.  

Game 2
Kay Bettendorf gave the Hawks the advantage in the bottom of the first inning as she singled to score Raigen Schwartz and give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.  

The Prairie Stars tied the game in the top of the fourth with a solo home run.  

QU retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth.  The Hawks scored a pair of runs on a wild pitch as the ball bounced far enough away for both Raigen Schwartz and Courtney Kernich to score on the play.  

Another solo home run for the Prairie Stars cut the Hawks lead to 3-2 after the top of the sixth.  

The Hawks added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to 5-2.  

Karli McLaughlin doubled to score Morgan Heckman and Jordan Heinz in the bottom of the sixth to give the Hawks a three-run advantage.  

Emily Griskell scattered five hits and allowed just two runs in her seven-inning complete game win.
