QUINCY, Ill. - Hawks junior second baseman Cody Birdsong was named GLVC Player of the Week after his outstanding performance at the plate for the Hawks.
Birdsong went 14-22 (.636) at the plate, blasting four home runs, driving in 11 runs and scoring nine times as the Hawks went 4-1 on the week.
Birdsong, a junior-college transfer, has been a staple of consistency batting in the Hawks two hole.
The Hawks second baseman leads QU with a .387 batting average, 53 hits, and 11 doubles. He is tied for the team lead with seven home runs and is second on the team with 31 RBIs and 32 runs scored.
Birdsong also ranks in the top ten in the GLVC in the following categories: batting average (8th), hits (3rd), at-bats (7th), and home runs (T-7th).
This is Birdsong's first career GLVC Player of the Week award. The last Hawk to win the award was Troy Wehde on April 10th of last year.
