QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University Hawks softball team lost twice to the University of Missouri St. Louis Saturday (Mar. 31). The Hawks lost 1-0 and 8-0 in the doubleheader.
Play by Play:
Game 1
The Hawks and the Tritons were locked in a pitchers duel in game one of the doubleheader.
The Tritons looked to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second. A single a Hawks error and a walk allowed for the Tritons to load the bases with one out. Sara Demuth worked out of the jam, getting a strikeout and a popup to end the threat.
The Tritons again threatened in the bottom of the fourth. UMSL loaded the bases with two outs. Demuth again worked out of the jam, getting a groundout to end the threat.
QU looked to take the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Megan Sharpshair doubled with one out and Morgan Heckman reached on an error by the Tritons to put two runners on with one out. Kylie Powers was hit by a pitch to load the bases for the Hawks with one out. Back to back strikeouts ended the Hawks scoring chance in the fourth inning.
Both teams were held in check until the bottom of the sixth inning. After a pair of singles and a wild pitch, the Tritons had runners on second and third with one out.
A sacrifice fly scored a run and gave the Tritons a 1-0 lead.
This was all the Tritons would need as UMSL took game one 1-0.
Game 2
The Hawks had an opportunity to score in the top of the second. Megan Sharpshair tripled to right field with one out. A pair of strikeouts ended the Hawks scoring chance.
The Tritons plated a run in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead.
The Tritons offense found its stride in the bottom half of the fifth inning. The Tritons scored seven runs on five hits and eight-run ruled the Hawks with an 8-0 win.
The Hawks were limited to two hits in the second game of the doubleheader.
