QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University softball team fell twice to Rockhurst University Sunday (Mar. 18) in their GLVC doubleheader. The Hawks fell 4-1 and 12-7 to Rockhurst.
Play by Play:
Game 1
QU got off to a quick start taking an early 1-0 lead. Jessica Poore singled with one out. Morgan Heckman followed with another single to move Poore to second base.
After Poore was tagged out by the shortstop on Kylie Powers infield single, Megan Sharpshair came to the plate with two outs. Sharpshair singled to right field scoring Morgan Heckman and giving QU a 1-0 lead.
Rockhurst plated a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1.
Rockhurst scored another run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run.
Rockhurst scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 4-0.
QU was unable to must the offense needed in the top of the seventh and fell to Rockhurst 4-1.
Game 2
QU fell behind 6-0 after the first two innings of play as Rockhurst scored two runs in the first and four in the second.
QU scored a run in the top of the third as Kylie Powers brought home Remi Ferguson on an RBI groundout.
QU scored another two runs in the top of the fourth. Katelyn Gratza homered to left center, also bringing home Kay Bettendorf.
Rockhurst answered with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 8-3.
QU scored again in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Megan Sharpshair.
The Hawks left the bases loaded as a double play ended the threat.
QU continued to battle, scoring two runs on three hits in the top of the sixth. This brought the Rockhurst lead to 8-6.
Rockhurst plated four runs on six hits in the bottom half of the sixth to put the game out of reach.
QU was able to score one run in the top of the seventh but fell to Rockhurst 12-7.
