QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University volleyball team defeated Graceland University 3-0 Saturday afternoon (Mar. 10). The Hawks defeated the Jackets 25-18, 25-22, 25-22.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 13-7 lead in the first set. The Hawks pushed the lead to 18-10 lead. After trailing 3-2, the Hawks never relinquished the lead in the 25-18 set win.
In the second set, the Hawks trailed 4-1 through the first five points. A 7-0 run by QU gave the Hawks an 8-4 lead. The Hawks extended the lead to 12-6 midway through the second set. The Jackets cut the lead 14-11. The Hawks responded by extending the lead to 19-14. The Jackets were able to bring the 24-22 but the Hawks held the lead to beat the Jackets 25-22 in set two.
QU started quickly in the third set, grabbing a 9-2 lead over the Jackets. Graceland tied the set at 21-21 after the fast start by the Hawks. QU scored four of the final five points to win the third set 25-22.
The Hawks were efficient on the offensive end. QU tallied 37 kills and took advantage of 21 attack errors by the Jackets.
Shane McAdams led the Hawks with 11 kills, Blake Sprecher finished with five blocks and Adam Rogan added 30 assists.
The Hawks improved to 10-12 on the year. The Hawks travel to Chicago to take on Saint Xavier University on Friday (Mar. 16).
