Men's Tennis Defeats Truman State 8-1

Box Score QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's tennis team defeated the Truman State Bulldogs 8-1 Saturday afternoon (Feb. 3) in the first match of the spring season.  

The Hawks won all six of the singles competitions and two of the three doubles competitions.  

In No.1 singles, Danyil Vayser defeated Paul Province 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.  Vayser came back after trailing 2-5 in the third set by winning 5 straight games to take the final set and the match 7-5.  

In No. 2 singles Michael Lesko defeated Griffin Turnage 6-4,6-0.  

Erik Weiler, Collin Adams, Dane Mechali, and Wyatt Pauely each defeated their opponents in straight sets to give the Hawks all six singles competitions.  

The Hawks lone blemish on the day came in No.1 doubles as Paul Province and Arpit Sahoo defeated Danyil Vayser and Erik Weiler 8-6.  

Collin Adams and Ryan McMillan defeated Nick Thiele and Matt Thiele 8-3 in No.2 doubles.  

In No. 3 doubles Dane Mechali and Wyatt Pauley defeated Griffin Turnage and Brian LaValley 8-4.  

The Hawks and Bulldogs also had four exhibition matches and their results were as follows.
#7 Singles: (QU) Patrick Anderson over (TSU) Matt Thiele 6-1
#8 Singles: (QU) Ryan McMillan over (TSU) Brian LaValle 8-3
#9 Singles: (QU) Jon Claywell over (TSU) Jack Miller 9-7

Exhibition Doubles-QU Michael Lesko/Grant Burton def. TSU Patrick Anderson/Alec Jarvis 8-8 (TB, 7-3).

The Hawks improve to 1-0 on the season and continue play tomorrow (Feb. 4) against Southern Indiana.
