QUINCY, Ill. - Despite a career-high 27 points by freshman Julia Ruzevich, the Quincy University women's basketball team fell to Missouri-St. Louis 91-75.
The Hawks and Tritons were in a fast-paced matchup throughout the first quarter. Ruzevich led the Hawks with 10 points in the opening quarter as QU led UMSL 23-21.
Anika Webster scored on the Hawks first two possessions and QU held a 27-23 lead with 8:43 remaining in the first half.
The offensive pace slowed throughout the remainder of the first half. The Hawks and Tritons sat tied at 31-31 with 3:18 to play in the second quarter.
After a fastbreak layup by Taylor Hickey, the Hawks trailed by one with 54 seconds to play in the opening half.
The Tritons converted on their next possession to take a three-point lead into the half.
A three-pointer by Maddie Spagnola cut the Triton lead to five at the 7:57 mark in the third quarter. UMSL stretched their lead to 10 with 6:29 to play in the third quarter.
A layup by Webster cut the UMSL lead to four with 2:58 to play in the quarter.
The Tritons held a seven-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Despite the Hawks best efforts in the final quarter, the Tritons offensive attack was too much.
QU scored 23 points in the quarter but the Tritons scored 32 in the games final quarter.
Ruzevich finished the game with 27 points, making five three-pointers which also was a career high.
Anika Webster finished with 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Hawks fall to 8-18, 4-13 in the GLVC.
QU returns home Saturday, February 24th, for the final home game of the regular season against McKendree.
