QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's basketball team fell to the UMSL Tritons Thursday night (Feb. 22) 80-57. A 47 point second half allowed the Tritons to pull away from the Hawks in the second half.
The first half proved to be a back and forth battled between QU and UMSL. Both teams struggled to find the mark in the first nine minutes as the Hawks and Tritons sat tied at 10-10.
The Hawks trailed by six after a pair of three-pointers by UMSL. QU responded with a pair of three-pointers of their own.
Marcus Hinton and Ryan Briscoe knocked down two three-pointers to tie the game at 16-16.
Briscoe knocked down another three-pointer a minute later to give the Hawks a 20-18 lead.
QU trailed by four with 4:21 to play in the opening half. A 5-0 run by the Hawks gave QU a one-point lead with a minute and thirty seconds remaining in the first half.
The Tritons made a pair of baskets to take a three-point lead into the half.
UMSL found their stride offensively in the second half.
Two baskets by the Tritons pushed the lead to eight after the minute and a half of play in the second half. QU brought the lead back to six after a layup by
Marcus Hinton.
A 10-0 run by UMSL gave the Tritons a 16 point lead.
The Hawks were unable to bring the lead under 14 and fell to the Tritons 80-57.
Marcus Hinton led the Hawks with 22 points on 9-15 shooting.
QU falls to 8-18, 4-13 in the GLVC.
QU returns home on February 24th for senior day against McKendree at 3:15 p.m. in Pepsi Arena.
