QUINCY, Ill. -  To finish out the 2017-2018 basketball season the Quincy University men's basketball team did something no other QU team has accomplished.  In the Hawks, 127-120 win over the McKendree Bearcats Saturday afternoon (Feb. 24) the Hawks broke the school record for most points scored in a single game.

The offensive outburst from both squads started from the opening tip.  McKendree jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead over the Hawks.  The Hawks set the tone early that this would be a fast-paced game and took the lead 14-13 with 15:05 to play in the first half.

The teams sat tied at 21-21 after a layup by Robby Dosier at the 12:39 mark in the first half.  Both teams kept up the incredible pace throughout the first half as QU held a 29-26 lead with 8:21 remaining.

The Hawks largest lead of the first half came after a layup by Demetrius Houston put the Hawks up 43-38.  The Bearcats, Nate Micheal led the Bearcats back to take a 49-45 lead with 1:48 to play in the first half.

Michael, who finished with a career-high 51 points, scored 16 first-half points to give the Bearcats a 51-47 at the end of the first half.

The offensive fireworks continued in the second half.  The Bearcats looked to be in control with a 13 point lead with 3:46 to play in the second half.

The Hawks refused to give in and rallied in the final minutes of the half.

A pair of layups by Marsalis Johnson and Houston cut the lead to 107-98.  After an empty possession for the Bearcats, senior guard Bobby Frasco drilled a three-pointer to cut the lead to six.

An offensive foul by the Bearcats gave the Hawks the ball right back and Marcus Hinton took advantage.  The forward knocked down the Hawks second consecutive three-pointer to pull the lead within three.

The Hawks mustered another defensive stop and brought the ball into the frontcourt with 1:08 to play.

After a scramble for the ball after a missed three-pointer by Demetrius Houston, Bobby Frasco found a wide open Marcus Hinton.  Hinton stepped into his three-point shot and tied the game at 107-107.

The Hawks took the lead after a Bearcats turnover and a pair of Ryan Briscoe free throws.

Nate Michael would not be denied as he knocked down a 12-foot jumper to send the game into overtime.  Michael scored 31 points in the second half for McKendree.

The Hawks grabbed the momentum in overtime, scoring on their first two possession to take a 113-109 lead.

With 2:28 remaining, freshman point guard Ryan Briscoe took over.  After a pair of free throws by Briscoe, the Bearcats answered with two free throws to bring the Hawks lead to four.
