Hinton, Houston & Hawks Defeat STLCOP 93-63

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy Hawks men's basketball team finished the 2018 year with a 93-63 win over the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Sunday afternoon (Dec. 30).  Marcus Hinton and Demetrius Houston combined for 38 points in the win. 

Play by Play

1st Half

The Hawks began the game on an 8-2 run in the first four minutes.  The Hawks used their size and inside presence to grab the early advantage.  

QU continued to hold the advantage six minutes into the contest.  The Hawks opened up an 11-point lead after a layup by Tanner Stuckman with 14:41 remaining in the first half.  

The College of Pharmacy managed to fight their way back into the game over the next three minutes.  A 9-2 run brought the Hawks lead to 17-15 with 11:28 on the game clock. 

A small 5-0 run by QU pushed the lead back to 22-15 midway through the first half.  

Over the final nine minutes of the first half, Demetrius Houston and Aziz Fadika began to assert themselves on the offensive end of the floor.  Houston finished the final nine minutes of the half with eight points and Fadika scored nine points and grabbed a pair of rebounds.  

QU went into the half lead 46-33. 

2nd Half

The College of Pharmacy came out of the half with intensity and outscored the Hawks 19-13 over the first eight minutes of the second half.  

However, senior forward Marcus Hinton had found his stroke in the second half.  Hinton scored 13 points in the half, going 5-7 from the field.  Hinton knocked down a pair of three-pointers, grabbed three rebounds, dished out an assist and blocked a shot for QU all in the second half.  

Three-point shooting had kept the College of Pharmacy in the game throughout the first half.  The Eutectics shooting went cold over the final 12 minutes and the Hawks took advantage.  

The Hawks outscored the Eutectics 34-11 over the games final 12 minutes.  

Each QU player that saw action scored at least two points in the 30-point Hawks win.

The Hawks continue conference play on January 3rd against the University of Indianapolis.  The Hawks travel to Indianapolis for the start of a four game road trip.
