QUINCY, Ill. – The Rockhurst women's basketball team came alive in the second half to snap QU's three game winning streak. The Hawks were outscored 46-28 in the final two quarters.
Play by Play
1st Quarter
Rockhurst took it to the Hawks at the start of the game. After eight minutes into the first quarter, RU held a 15-9 lead. QU was able to cut the score to 15-13 after a free throw made by
Lexi Doyle and a three-pointer by
Aleksandra Petrovic.
Rockhurst extended their lead to 18-13 just before the end of the first quarter with a made basket from beyond the arc.
2nd Quarter
Quincy answered back in quarter number two. QU began with an 8-2 run that gave them the lead 21-20 just two minutes into the second quarter.
Rockhurst retained the lead with a made jumper, but
Maddie Spagnola hit a three to give Quincy back the lead 24-22.
QU ended the last six minutes of the half with a 15-6 run. During the run,
Michaela Gronewold knocked down three 3-pointers to help give her team the lead 39-28 at halftime.
3rd Quarter
The difference in the game came in quarter number three. Quincy had all the momentum going into the break, but Rockhurst took it back immediately. Rockhurst netted a 3-pointer and a free throw to cut Quincy's lead to 39-32.
Michaela Gronewold connected on her fourth 3-pointer of the game to put the Hawks ahead 44-32 with seven minutes left in the third.
RU scored the next nine points to get right back in the game. The score was 44-41 with four minutes left in quarter number three.
Alexa Low stopped the bleeding with a made jump shot to give Quincy a 46-41 lead, but Rockhurst ended the quarter on a rampage.
RU went into the fourth quarter with all the momentum after a 15-2 run took the life out of the crowd. The score was 56-48 Rockhurst.
4th Quarter
Rockhurst opened with two made 3-pointers in a row to extend the lead to 62-48. Quincy scored the next two baskets to make it 62-52.
QU was able to cut the score to 65-59 with 3:18 left to play after another jump shot by Low.
The Quincy Hawks were unable to get closer than six points the remainder of the game as they fell 74-67.
