Hinton Leads Hawks to First Win of 2018 Season

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Quincy Hawks men's basketball team began its season with a 69-53 win over Cedarville University Friday night (Nov. 9).  Marcus Hinton led the Hawks with 19 points. 

1st Half

The Hawks and Yellow Jackets traded baskets through the first three minutes of action and Cedarville held an 8-7 lead.  

A three-pointer and a dunk gave Cedarville a 13-7 lead over the Hawks with 14:54 to play in the first half.  

Marcus Hinton ended the run with a layup at the 13:32 mark in the first half.  Marsalis Johnson followed with a layup of his own to cut the Cedarville lead to 13-11.  

The Hawks tied the game at 15-15 midway through the half.  

Both teams drilled a three-pointer and the game remained tied at 18.  

Cedarville held a 22-20 lead with 5:27 to play in the half.  The Hawks retook the lead with a layup and a free throw by Jah-Kobe Womack.   

With 2:50 remaining in the first half, Aziz Fadika gave the Hawks a 25-24 lead and the score held until the end of the half.  

2nd Half

Quincy began the second half on a 8-3 run to take a 33-27 lead.  Cedarville answered with a run of their own to cut the Hawks lead to 33-31.  

The Yellow Jackets took a 36-35 lead with 14:16 to play in the game.  

Three straight baskets by QU gave the Hawks a 41-36 lead just two minutes later.  

With nine minutes to play, Cedarville cut the Hawks lead to two after a pair of free throws.  

Marcus Hinton emphatically gave the Hawks a 47-42 lead after a dunk and Robby Dosier extended the lead to seven after a layup on the following possession.  

Cedarville cut the Hawks lead back to two with 7:29 to play in the game.  

Over the final seven minutes of the game, QU outscored Cedarville 20-6 to secure its first win of the season.
